I received my first tag from Beth at Social Climbers to tell you all 10 things about myself.. 1. I have never eaten a bowl of cereal in my life. I will eat some cereal dry but the thought of letting it get soggy in a bowl of milk is not appetizing to me in the least.
2. I had bacterial meningitis when I was 9 years old and came very close to dying. It started from an ear infection and the doctor's were convinced that it was just the flu. The nurses told my parents that they never expected me to walk out of the hospital.
3. I was born on my grandmother's birthday. She always told me that her first grandchild was the best present she could ever ask for. She passed away last July and I miss her more and more everyday.
4. My dad's mother came to the United States from the Bahamas. I still have family that lives there and they are a blast to visit. My uncle's brother in law was actually the Prime Minister of the Bahamas until 2007. I like to pretend that I am some sort of royalty. ;)
5. Whenever I turn the volume up on the car or radio, it always has to be on an even number. 5's are okay as well.
6. I am a sorority girl, Computer Science major, and Mathematics minor. I get told pretty often that "I don't look like a Computer Science major." I have yet to figure out of that is a compliment but I choose to take it as such.
7. I lived in Japan from the age of 4 to 6. It was a great place to grow up as it was very safe and there were a lot of things to do and see. I wish I had been a bit older, but my mom and I have talked recently about going back for a visit. Since I live in a community with heavy ties to the military a lot of my friends lived there as well and people joke that you come to our town in Virginia to meet up with your friends from Okinawa.
8. I have a pretty sharp long term memory but a terrible short term memory. I will remember your face if I saw you for 5 minutes once three years ago but don't ask me where I put my car keys. Proof: Recently I saw a girl that had been a great friend in elementary school on the streets of NYC. She moved away when we were 8 and that was the last time I saw her but instantly I knew it was her.
9. My younger sister tells me that I am "life retarded". I am not much for cooking and cleaning. While it might not be the most PC of statements, she is pretty accurate. She is planning to go to culinary school after college, and she is definitely the more domestic of the two of us. I tell her that we need to make sure she lives near me when we get older so I can come to her house for Thanksgiving dinner.
10. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about all of you over the last year since I stumbled upon this blogging community last summer. I wish that I could have a little bit of each of your personalities and talents because I think you are all great women. Thanks for just being yourselves!
I won't tag anyone because I feel like you are all so experienced and I'm still a newbie but I hope that you were able to learn a little something about me!
Rascal Flatts is hands down my favorite band. I have seen them in concert a handful of times and every year it is better than the last. Since I am in New York interning for the summer I will be missing the show at home in Virginia with all of my friends. I thought that all of my summer concert sadness would be relieved when I realized that they are playing about an hour and a half from my university in Small Town, PA the weekend after classes start. I even called my roommate and we were all set to get tickets. That was until we realized that the concert falls on the same day as the second round of sorority rush. You can miss a round but there is a fine to pay and while there is no stipulation on what you can miss for.. I don't know if Gary, Joe Don, and Jay are a legitimate excuse. I need advice.. because as a senior I have a much lesser role in recruitment. The juniors pretty much run the show and I did MORE than my fair share last year. I even missed an engineering lab, had to drive all over to get battery operated candles, accidentally left my flashers on all night which resulted in a parking ticket AND a dead battery. This would definitely be a fun way to kick off senior year and it would be my roommate's first Rascal Flatts experience. But at the same time I always get a bit annoyed when the seniors start to check out and stop coming to sorority events.. and this is our first event of the school year. What to do, what to do?!
Another summer.. another internship.. and I find myself back in a familiar place.. a lurker in the Blogosphere. I enjoy so much reading all of your blogs and have made a few attempts to become a contributing member of society but I end up finding your lives to be much more interesting than mine. So lets see how this goes...
So I am deciding that I really want to write more on here.. I spend tons of time looking at other people's blogs but I feel like I dont really have much to say.. Looking back at the meme I did made me laugh because I didnt indicate that I had ever performed a solo when in reality.. there was a very traumatic experience with me playing the role of Ella Fitzgerald in the 5th grade that I must have blocked from my memory. It was one of those corny elementary school chorus plays.. the title was something about jazz music and I was supposed to run off stage.. do a quick change which involved me putting on a skirt and coming out singing a song. Well somehow the skirt got all tangled up.. I waddled out on stage and immediately started to sob.. I take the skirt off and everyone applauds.. and the sobs grow stronger.. My chorus teacher had to finish my lines because I couldnt control myself.. Everyone afterwards thought that it was supposed to happen.. Lets just say that was the end of my musical/acting career.I cannot even believe how fast this semester is going by. Only 2 more months until the end of classes and then finals start. And then I am a SENIOR in college? How did this happen? Why did high school seem to drag on FOREVER and college has gone by in the blink of an eye. We had a speaker last night that came to talk about the hookup culture on college campuses and boy was she accurate. It wasnt anything I was unaware of (ie. all boys think girls are crazy for wanting a relationship and all girls are fed up with boys who wont commit) but it was good to hear and she was quite humorous. The funniest thing to me was that she quoted a girl saying "At home in Virginia hooking up meant something totally different" I have been saying that for the last 2 years!! In high school hooking up to me and all of my friends meant you were full on doing it, then all of a sudden at my college above the Mason-Dixen Line.. hooking up took on a whole realm of different meanings and you then had to explain "hooking up how". Too much confusion. Also, all the young alumni she interviewed were confident in saying that once college is over.. traditional dating makes a comeback. We'll see about that one.. :)
